Christmas Countdown

"Truly my soul finds rest in God;
    my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken."  Psalm 62:1-2 (a Psalm of David)

For many, Christmas is a time for merry making, gift giving and family reunions.

Hopes and expectations are high but most of the time, things just don't turn up like one would expect them to be.

For many, this time of the year is their saddest and hardest.

Why? For a variety of personal reasons. And the many others that are common to all.

But also because we have all forgotten what the season is really all about.

Love Came Down

Real love came down that first Christmas morning -- the Bethlehem Star shining down. The animals are the silent witnesses. The manger the resting place for the newborn. And the lowly shepherds are the first guests, the only guests.

Nothing fancy, no high hopes, no high expectations.

Today with a couple of days before Christmas, the stresses are high and still escalating as the day approaches.

Can we take a step back and ask ourselves, why are we stressing over the things we are fussing about, both big and small.

Did Mary stress over these things? Did Joseph? Surely the newborn King wouldn't have been pleased about being born where He was born. I don't think so.

Everything happened just as it was written about for generations. Everything happened just as what was planned from the beginning of time. Everything was as it should be, both the good and the not so good.

Love came down. And this is really what Christmas and who Christ is all about.

Real love, who casts out fear, worry, longing, guilt, condemnation, shame, lack, sadness.

Let us come back to this perfect and real love. We still have time.

The countdown starts right now.
