The New Earth

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband." Revelation 21:1-2

Jesus of Nazareth spoke to people using stories of everyday life and one of the things He used is about a wedding feast and the bride and the groom (more on this in the coming days).

In the book of Revelation, John, one of the earliest and closest followers of Jesus wrote about things that he saw will take place in the future. That future has yet to happen.

Now, two things. One it may never will. Or two it will just be a matter of time.

Either way, the book of Revelation is a book that is worth studying, much like any history book you've read before, only aside from history, future events are also written down. What else? Because it really is tough to hear yourself say "someone tried to tell me about this, I just didn't want to listen" or even hear "don't say I didn't warn you".

Most will of course, throw their hands up and say "I'll take my chances" or "you're crazy". Nothing new, this was common back then as well. In fact, most if not all of those who ever followed Him today started out the same and thought the same way, up until something convinced them otherwise.

Own Accord

Jesus didn't coerce anyone to listen to Him nor force them to believe the things He was saying. The ones who believed Him, did so by their own personal and voluntary decision, many doing so against strong opposition. And it will be the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Many will say this book and the other books in the bible are just books of fables and myths and fairy tales. But then again, everything written down and passed on as legends, myths and such were written down because they were based on actual events which indeed took place.

Jesus was a real man who lived in and around Nazareth. John and the other earliest followers of Jesus, were also real men and women.

Jesus was unlike any other teacher before or after Him. When He spoke, people stopped what they were doing and listened. His first followers dropped everything in their life and followed Him.

Backed it Up

And when He needed to up the ante, He made the sick well, fed those who were hungry and raised the dead. He, Himself came out of His own burial tomb and was seen by hundreds if not thousands for several weeks. These things made several eye witnesses to write down these books of legends which we still read today over 2,000 years later. Billions of people all over the world still commemorate His birth and resurrection every year. We are still marking the start of each new year on the supposed year Jesus was born, designating this first year to be "anno Domini" (A.D.) or “the year of our Lord” and B.C. for those years before He was born. 2019, is thus two thousand and nineteen years since he was born.

And today, as in generations passed people are still being touched and impacted with His teachings and the things written about Him.

The start of every new year is always a good time to look at His story in a whole new light. And reading about Him and His story is where it starts.

"I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true." And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children."
Revelation 21:3-7
