First Resurrection Sunday - Alive and Well

The Empty Tomb

"Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, t c.ehe one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” John 20:1-2

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

"On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord." John 20:19-20

No one saw this coming. Yes, even though Jesus told His disciples about this, and even though Jesus just brought Lazarus back from the dead, four days after being buried.

After Jesus was arrested, tried, found guilty and was put to death, His disciples all went into hiding, fearing for their own lives. All except Mary and other women disciples who came to visit the tomb early the First Resurrection Sunday morning.

Mary saw the empty tomb and she ran quickly back to Peter and the other disciples, telling them what they saw. By Sunday evening, Jesus showed Himself to His disciples, flesh and blood, alive and well. His disciples saw Him and then believed He came back from death, all except Thomas, who was not there and would not believe them, no not until he himself have seen Jesus in the flesh.

Doubting Thomas was finally with the other disciples when Jesus appeared to them again, and so finally like the others, he too believed and doubted no more.

Like what the video above shows,  Jesus told Thomas,  “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” And if you believe the gospel writers, that would be you -- greatly blessed, forgiven, highly favored and deeply loved children of the most High God.
