Hope To Live For

Jesus Comforts His Disciples

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:1-4

Aside from peace, one more gift that Jesus left behind to His followers was hope.

Jesus taught them that He is the Resurrection and the Life. And He showed them that He had the power over death as He brought Lazarus back to life after He was dead and buried for four days.

What more, before He left His followers, He gave them the assurance that He Himself will come back to take them back with Him to be where He was going. Scriptures refer to this as the blessed hope (Titus 2:13).

So hope, like peace, is one more present, Christians have received that has been given them by Jesus. Without this gift, believers would not be able to live a true Christian life. Most unbelievers would ask those who follow Jesus about this 'hope' that they have.

True to his name, who else was going to ask a similar question to Jesus regarding the way that Jesus was talking about, but Doubting Thomas.

Let us read the continuation to the passage above.

Jesus the Way to the Father

Thomas said to him [Jesus], “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
John 14:5-7

After John 3:16, this is probably among the other well known verses in the bible.

Jesus told His followers that He is the Way, He is the Truth and He is the Life. And He backed this up with signs and wonders and miracles that defined His ministry on earth.

Truly, for everything He did and everything written about Him long before He was born all point to Him being the way to heaven, the way (back) to His and Our Father in Heaven and the way to abundant life and eternal life.

Jesus told Thomas, "if you really know me, you will know my (heavenly) Father as well".

Once believers truly know Jesus, then they will know their Father in heaven and His promises and they will live a life with an eager expectation and assurance of the blessed hope.
