More of the First Holy Week

On the middle of the first Holy Week, we see this happening:

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

"Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver. From that time on, Judas began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus." Matthew 26:14-16

30 pieces of silver

There is a saying that goes 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer'.

Judas Iscariot was one of the closest followers of Jesus. In fact Judas was among the few disciples who Jesus said were His friends.

Judas even had a position among the closest friends of Jesus. He was their group's treasurer. Hence on the event before the verses above (as written in the gospel of John), Judas rebuked the woman who anointed Jesus with expensive oils. Jesus then rebuked Judas and this (among other things) led to him betraying Jesus.

Scriptures say, Judas sold Jesus out to his enemies, for 30 pieces of silver -- which Judas ended up giving back because he regretted his decision to betray in his words, "innocent blood". These same silver pieces were used to purchase Potter's Field, a piece of land intended as a burial site for the poor and other dead bodies which no one has claimed. It is believed that Judas himself ended up being buried there himself.

If this is true, it should serve as a warning to anyone who would sell out Jesus, or take advantage of him, as they could end up, well buying their own grave with the money they acquired from selling Jesus out.

Also, to anyone who would be serving in the ministry, if Jesus had a Judas within his small group of followers, if not friends. Then expect the same within your small ministry group.
