The First Holy Week Coming to an End

After Judas left to sell Jesus out, Jesus and His other disciples partake of the Last Supper. For what happened next, let us read this narrative by Matthew.

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

"Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, “Sit here while I go over there to pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
 Matthew 26:36-39

Before this happened, Jesus already knew His short earthly mission is already coming to an end. But not without Him having to go through the ultimate reason why He came down to earth -- being the once and for all sacrifice for all humankind.

He prayed earnestly and asked His Father in heaven if it is possible for Him to not undergo what He had to go through. But yet not because He wanted to, but only what His Father would want Him to do.

This sums up a believer's prayer life -- where we pray and pour our hearts out for our requests to our Heavenly Father, but we do so not with the intent of gaining favor or twisting His arm but to get closer to Him, know His will and be obedient to it.
