Love One Another
Love Is From God
""My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Simon Peter asked him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later."
Peter asked, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you."
Then Jesus answered, "Will you really lay down your life for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!" John 13:33-38
I just love Peter, the apostle. He is so like us, normal people -- one who sometimes shoots his mouth off, mostly being full of himself. And so unlike Jesus.
And when Peter speaks like this so arrogantly, he gets shot down or put back into his place by Jesus, who apparently knows him more than he does. Which of course, He does.
But that is not our subject for today, rather it is the one thing that Jesus told His followers to do before he went to the cross. It is also that one thing which He said will distinguish His followers from those who aren't.
And that commandment is that His followers is to love one another. This will be the single reason how other people would know that they are indeed followers of Jesus.
You may have already known of such people. Or you may have wondered how some people are seemingly so loving like that, sometimes to a fault. Or how some people could be like that or wonder what is wrong with them.
If you have, then you now know why. And knowing this, you now can also tell real believers from fake ones.
