No One is Godless

"So Paul took his stand in the open space at the Areopagus and laid it out for them. “It is plain to see that you Athenians take your religion seriously. When I arrived here the other day, I was fascinated with all the shrines I came across. And then I found one inscribed, to the god nobody knows. I’m here to introduce you to this God so you can worship intelligently, know who you’re dealing with." Acts 17:21-23


Many people have claimed they have no religion. Some say they have no god -- they are godless.

Religion is not just Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism or some other ism.

The thing is, what ever you believe (or for that matter not believe in) that is your religion.

And whatever controls you, is your god.

Who Is Your God?

When you say you do your own thing and no one tells you what to do - essentially your god is your own self.

So aside from the obvious belief systems, many others are so common and widespread. The sad part, people passionately practicing or following them aren't even aware of their religion, much less their god.

Fo some people, the environment, creation or nature has become their god. People have done some pretty amazing and sacrificial things in the name of the environment. Some have killed, have given their lives or will do so to save a certain animal, a tree, a plant, a bacteria, air, water, planet earth.

For some, pleasure and happiness, that's their god. Everything they plan, think, do and say is about achieving the most pleasure they can get.

For some, it is material things, the latest, the best, the most expensive. If it's out there, they want one. If a neighbor got one, they got to have one too, or one much better. Home TV Shopping or Amazon are their churches.

For some, it is a social movement, others reasoning, logic, the intellect, others a habit that has become an addiction that has taken control over them.

People have become an -ist, an -ict, or an -ic following blindly a certain type of known or unknown -ism. And some do not even know about it.

Many are fanatical or fanatics, be it of social media, sports or a certain sport, music, arts, a celebrity, a game, chatting about the latest news or something else.

If you think about it, it is not hard to see. You know who your god is. No one is godless.

It is true. God is not dead. Yours and everyone else's are very much alive and well. The catch, everyone is free to choose what god they will serve.

And not because you were born to a certain belief system or a professing believer, does not mean that you follow the god of that faith. Check your heart, check what you think and what you do. Your lips may say one thing but your actions, another.

Your god is within you. It speaks to you. What is it telling you to do?
