Elementary Teaching 5

Milk 5

"Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead," Hebrews 6:1-3

Resurrection

The Old Testament Jews have always believed in the resurrection of the dead. This was evident in the narrative about Jesus bringing Lazarus from the dead.

When Martha first met Jesus as He came to be with them, Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Martha responded, “I know he will rise again... in the resurrection at the last day.”

But Jesus have something else in mind.

Jesus' response to Martha was: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die."

Do You Believe

Then Jesus asked her, "Do you believe this?”

This belief is central to the Christian faith. The disciples of Jesus believe that God created them and will return to Him in the after life.

Thus the question of Jesus still stands today to all of us, "do you believe?".

Or Believe Something Else

Or do you believe that you are reincarnated, into whatever depending on what you did with your life? Or do you believe that you only live once, and that this is all there is?

Of course, whatever we believe is up to us.

Jesus Himself was raised from the dead was the evidence that backed up what He said and the proof that people such as His disciple Thomas needed to see in order to believe. Which is not to say that all the other disciples, even Peter and John, also needed to see for them to believe. And this is the same gospel that they have taught to anyone wanting to listen, since that first Resurrection Sunday. The same good news of salvation that they never recanted and was sentenced to death for.
