Elementary Teaching

A Call to Maturity

"Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we will do, if God permits." Hebrews 6:1-3 BSB

Like new born infants, every new believer who has been born again has in fact become babies again -- no of course not physically but spiritually.

So the writer of the Book of Hebrews is telling its readers that each of them should move up from babies, leaving the elementary teachings (milk) and start progressing to eating meat, and thereby maturing in the faith. Although, he is disappointed that people who ought to be partaking of solid food are still not ready for it.

What Are The Elementary Teaching

Paul wrote to the first church in the City of Corinth:

"Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.

By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.

Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born." 1 Corinthians 15:1-8

We also can sing our faith beliefs:

Next step? More milk, then solid food.
