Teacher
"You are my God. Show me what you want me to do, and let your gentle Spirit lead me in the right path." Psalm 143:10 ( A Psalm of David)
In the previous messages, we spoke about four things: Listen, Speak, Action and Reaction.
In the last message we also spoke on abundant living. Now we will move on to Teaching these.
Usual MO
One day, when Jesus was doing His usual thing -- teaching to those willing to listen to Him, at the temple courts, some people and the religious leaders of the day interrupted Him and presented Him with someone who they presumably caught commiting adultery.
Not Unusual
It was not unusual for those wanting to find fault with Jesus to stalk Him and to bring Him issues and questions because they wanted to lay a trap for Him.
But as usual, Jesus was one step ahead of them. The night before, He went to a quiet place to be alone, to pray and spend a quiet moment with His Abba Father, away from the distractions and the worries of this world -- His normal MO.
WWJD
In the morning when He was presented with the dilemna on what will He do regarding this woman caught in sin, instead of answering them, He did something different.
He knew this was again another trap and that He was being set up infront of everyone to see.
It is Written
But instead of telling a story, or asking them a question or directly answering them, He started writing on the ground. Now, a lot of people throughout the ages have speculated on what was written. But that is not the point.
Here, Jesus was teaching them that He is slow to speak and slow to anger. He is compassionate, merciful, He does not judge, He does not condemn and in fact He did not even condemn the people who was laying a trap for Him by bringing this woman to Him. He knew what was in their hearts. He was probably writing something about the things hidden inside their hearts. Who knows?
Every one of them knows that the penalty was stoning, and these people were already holding the stones, ready to throw them at the woman.
But Jesus didn't tell them anything, except "let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone " And still stooped down, He continued writing on the ground.
No One Was Left
Of course, every one of them took off as there was none of them sinless and faultless.
But somebody was left there with the woman condemned to death. Yes, Jesus because He was sinless.
He taught with quiet confidence. He taught with authority. He taught with power. He taught with humility. He taught with mercy. He taught with peace. He taught love. And they understood.
He is the Teacher.
We can read this passage in John 8.
