Wait For The Gift

"In my first book, O Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach, until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen. After His suffering, He presented Himself to them with many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a span of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

And while they were gathered together, He commanded them: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:1-4

Gift of the Holy Spirit

Before Jesus was taken up to heaven (the Ascension) on the 40th day after His resurrection He told His closest followers to stay in Jerusalem.

And to wait for the gift that He already told them about prior to His death.

He mentioned that it was a gift that the Father has promised.

John wrote about this gift this way -- Jesus od Nazareth speaking: "But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid." John 14:26-27

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

This gift will be given to them in Jerusalem and that was the reason why Jesus told not to leave the city. For there they will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. This is the gift, and this event took place 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus.
