Pandemic Preaching - First Things First
"Be humble in the presence of God’s mighty power, and he will honor you when the time comes. God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him."
1 Peter 5:6-7
Proverbs 9:10 says: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight."
Aside from this verse, there are also other passages in the bible that says, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. But many would miss the point these passages are making and even misinterpret these to mean we should be "afraid" of God.
Fear
While it is true that we should "fear" the Lord in the context of giving reverence and respect and honor. And acknowledging Him as our Maker, the Creator of the universe, the Beginning and the End. But "fear" here does not mean to be afraid, be scared or be terrified. In fact in acknowleding Our heavenly Father for who He is, it will instill love.
Most do use fear or fear of punishment, as motivation or to get what they want. But contrary to what you mght have been taught, God does not do that. He instead uses love to show us that is who He is. He is love. And He did this through the person of Jesus Christ.
Now of course to God, we are but the morning mist or vapor, gone in an instant. We are but one speck of sand at the seashore. God is the Potter, we are the clay. But we are His own. We are His children. We are the apple of His eyes. And to us, He gave Jesus to show us His love. To show us love, real love. And through whom we will find wisdom.
Love, Peace, Joy, Hope
Thus this knowledge of the Holy One gives us insight or human insight into God's character, His divine plan and His heavenly perspective.
Through His love, we find peace. We find joy. We find hope. We find rest for our weary, tired soul, for our mind, body and spirit.
Jesus
Finally knowing (and not just knowing about) Jesus of Nazareth, getting to know Him intimately, personally and then wanting to know more about Him each day is the essence of the passage above. As I said, first things first (or for some, going back to your first love).
And then these words of the Apostle Peter comes alive -- indeed "God cares for you,... so turn all... your worries over to him."
Cast it to Him. Cry out to Our heavenly Father. Let Him hear the plea from deep down your heart. He knows about it. Nothing is hidden from Him. But do you know that He is but waiting to let you tell Him?
"As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him." Psalm 103:13
Note: If you watched this video, just a footnote, I actually found this last video (this bible teacher sharing about Agustine's Confession) only by chance. So it is true the Lord will do want He wants to do.
