Feeding the Lambs - Holy Spirit Power

The Ascension

"So when they came together, they asked Him, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:6-8

[27th message of the New Believer Series]

In the preceding message we found out that some of the early believers, have been believers for a while but have not even heard about the Holy Spirit. (Because no one taught them).

And as we discussed, it is no different today.

You Will Receive Power

The last words of Jesus to His disciples (before He ascended into heaven) was that they will receive power.

And this power is because of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the gift Jesus promised to send to His disciples. He is an advocate who will be their ever present help (John 14:16).

Power To Do What

Jesus told His disciples about the Holy Spirit as He was comforting them before He went out to be arrested and then sent to the cross.

Jesus knew that His disciples needed another advocate, Someone who will be with them and will never leave them -- Someone who will help them to be His witnesses (remembering everything He told them when He was still with them in the flesh).

Witnesses

Much like in a court of law, they will be able to testify to everything they have seen and heard Jesus did in their presence and tell the people in Jerusalem, then those in Judea and Samaria and finally to the ends of the earth.

Those first believers with the help of the Holy Spirit,  witnessed in and around Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and then to other places.

Paul and other succeeding believers witnessed further and farther, sharing the good news of salvation.

And because of the work that they did, and because of the Holy Spirit, believers of today have been able to and have the power to do the same and witness to everyone, and to all the world (fulfilling the last words of Jesus of Nazareth -- to the end of the earth).

You reading this right now is proof of this.
