Inconvenient Biblical Teaching - Believe It or Not
'Although Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still did not believe in Him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:
“Lord, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”'
-The Apostle John, written in the 1st century, A.D.
[7th message of the Why I Don't Believe Series]
The messages in this series discuss how some people who reject Christianity do so because they either cannot accept an inconvenient biblical teaching, or they have taken a stance against Jesus and is standing their ground, immovable.
This is understandable as all of us do not want anyone telling us what to do. The bible actually alludes to this as free will. We have also discussed that some people do the opposite as they actually do what other people tells or expects them to do -- one reason is because they do not wish to be cancelled (a fate worse than death in some societies).
Human Nature
A group of people who call themselves as agnostics stand by their personal belief that no one can know for sure or no one can be 100% certain if there is a God or not. So they would rather stay on the fence, safely taking a neutral position of neither belief nor disbelief.
As Old As Time
As we have read from the excerpt above from the writings of John, many during their time witnessed the miracles that Jesus performed yet still would not believe. They saw and believe their eyes but they did not want to believe what Jesus was telling them about Himself.
Jesus Himself told His doubting disciple, Thomas that he believed because he saw what was said about Him for himself. Jesus then told him, blessed are those who have not seen yet believed.
Perfect Time
I believe there is a certain time, a certain moment of time when an individual will have their eureka moment. It will be that time when everything will fall into place and then that person will "believe".
Of course for some people, there will also be a time when they will just tell themselves that they have made up their mind and totally do not believe. At that time these people will start to call themselves as atheists.
Stages
Throughout history we have records of people starting off as atheists then later on becoming believers. There are those who started as believers and who became agnotics and then later on atheists. And there are some who started as believers became atheists and then became believers again.
We never really can tell.
Love
Our best option is to keep an open mind and an open heart and to be kind with one another, respecting everyone.
We shouldn't judge or condemn others who have taken a personal stance of belief or unbelief -- treating others how we would want to be treated.
If God is God then He will make a way to make people know that He is God. And in the same way, there will always be those who no matter what God does they will never believe.
