Feeding the Lambs - Speaking in Tongues 2

"We are witnesses of all that He did, both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. And although they put Him to death by hanging Him on a tree, God raised Him up on the third day and caused Him to be seen— not by all the people, but by the witnesses God had chosen beforehand, by us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that He is the One appointed by God to judge the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.”

The Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard his message. All the circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and exalting God."

Contention

One reason why we need to have an orderly study is that this teaching having divided Christians for a long time, it has received push backs from unbelievers and even believers.

Because of these and our conscious and unconscious biases, it will be hard to teach this lesson purely as a human endeavor. So at least there has to be an "orderly' manner of presenting this and more importantly, we need to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us and help us understand this teaching. As we have already mentioned before, it is hard to receive Him whom we don't know and don't know well. The Holy Spirit is a Person (not a thing or a force or an energy). Like God the Father and Jesus, God the Son, we need to know who He is.

[Our Father in heaven, guide us into this truth and let your Spirit overshadow us in the Name of Jesus of Nazareth. We want to know, we want to understand and we want to receive the Holy Spirt, Amen]

Peter

A quick recap is that at the start of the church and the Era of the Holy Spirit, Peter under the power of the Holy Spirit has been initially preaching to the Jews (the circumcised believers) and Paul was initially preaching to the Non Jews (Gentiles).

Luke narrated in the excerpt above that at this instance, Peter (who was with other Jews) was teaching a group of Gentiles (much like what we are doing right now with this message). Luke recorded that they were surprised that while Peter was teaching, the Holy Spirit came upon those who were hearing him speak and these Non Jews started speaking in tongues.

Promise

The promise was again confirmed, the message is for all people and the gift of the Holy Spirit is available to and is for all who believe the message of Christ. God does not discriminate, with open arms He receives those who come to Him in reverence and who humbly seek Him earnestly or with sincere intentions and convictions.

God gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.

Are You Ready?

Before we continue on the next message, it is wise to study the teachings listed above and examine our hearts. And then let us meet up and continue this lesson on the next message.

Our Father in heaven, lead us into all truth, prepare our hearts and renew our minds now and for when we meet again. This we ask through your Son Jesus (Yeshua Hamashiach of Nazareth), our Savior -- The Way, The Truth and The Light.
