Our God - Comforting

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort"
-the Apostle Paul, writing to the 1st church in the City of Corinth, 1st century
2 Corinthians 1:3

[This is the 5th message of this series]

Continuing in this series of lessons, we will learn that Our God is not only loving, slow to anger and compassionate,  but He is also a caring, understanding, consoling, encouraging, protecting and uplifting God.

God of All Comfort

He is the God of all comfort -- caring for us during our times of need; equipping us with the confort for ourselves and to help care for others in their times of need.

Jesus told His disciples that He will not leave them as orphans.

We were already orphans before Christ found us, picked us up, cleaned us, mended us and put us back together -- making us children of the Most High God, the God of Creation, Maker of heaven and earth.

God will never let us go back to being and feeling like orphans once again. We have an Everlasting Father who loves us dearly.

Holy Spirit

He gave us His Spirit to be our ever present Help, to be Our Comforter. For He knows just how much we need consoling and encouraging.

We have already discussed that people who have lost a spouse knows just how a new widow/widower feels like and what that person is going through and will go through; the same way an orphan can relate with another orphan, or a person with a disability with other people with a disability.

God sent the Holy Spirit to be Our Comforter, Our Helper so that we can comfort others with the comfort we ourselves received from God.

New Life

Christ died for us, so we can live, and receive this new life so that we can live for Him and for others. That is what being a Christian is all about, it is nothing about ourselves.

When we suffer, it is not without a reason. It is to know that we have a God who is there for us, who will comfort us and is an opportunity to extend this comfort to others who are undergoing the same situation.

God reveals Himself to us in any and all situations (most especially during the most difficult times of our life).

The Rescue

"All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us."  2 Corinthians 1:3-4 MSG
