Our God - Teacher

"I have told you these things while I am still with you. But the Holy Spirit will come and help you, because the Father will send the Spirit to take my place. The Spirit will teach you everything and will remind you of what I said while I was with you."
-Jesus of Nazareth, speaking with His disciples, 1st century
John 14:25-27

[This is the 6th message of this series]

Continuing in this series of lessons, we have been learning who Our God is and who He isn't. After having known many of God's attributes, we will now talk about the Three-in-One God.

He is God, He can do the impossible.

One God

The God written about in the Jewish bible revealed Himself to the Jewish people through their prophets.

A central message of the Jewish Scriptures is to await for the coming of the Messiah, the Savior of the world as prophesied over many generations.

Christian God

The followers of Christ (Jesus of Nazareth, born in Bethlehem) believed Him to be the long awaited and promised Messiah. Jesus satisfied all the Messianic Prophesies.

Christian Scriptures were written after He ascended to heaven and formed the basis for the 3-in-1 God -- 1. God the Father, as revealed in the Jewish Scriptures and 2. God the Son (the Word made Flesh -- the Messiah) and 3. God the Holy Spirit, as revealed in the Christian Scriptures.

Teacher

Christ Jesus in human form only had a limited time on earth, only to fulfill His mission. As the Prophesied Messiah, He fulfilled the sacred writings and ascended back to heaven to prepare the eternal place for His church.

Before He left, He told His followers, many things and among them, the excerpt we read above from the Book of John.

He told His disciples He was leaving them, but in His place the Spirit of God will descend and be with them until the end of this age.

This is the Age of the Holy Spirit. He is the Promised Teacher who is making plain the things Jesus have said. Without the Holy Spirit, we will not be able to understand anything, like many of those during the time of Jesus. The things Jesus said even the most learned teachers of the Jewish Scriptures did not even understand.

Jesus had to do one-on-one mentoring with His followers, group and special tutorial lessons and even then they could only understand so much (only what they needed at the time).

[This is the reason Jesus taught His disciples to pray to Our Father in heaven that He "give us this day our daily bread" -- our daily sustenance of physical food and spiritual food, through the Holy Spirit of God]

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit did come as promised, and explained to them those which they needed to understand at the proper time. God's Spirit arrived 50 days after Jesus ascended, empowering the followers of Jesus, teaching them and giving them comfort, peace, hope and understanding. That day marked the beginning of the church.

Every believer's Teacher is the Holy Spirit. Apart from Him, we will not be able to understand God. Anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish. God is God, how can we even start to understand who He is if not for His help.

The Message Paraphrase

John 14:25-27 “I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught."

[B.C. to A.D.

When the Messiah arrived, humankind marked off time to describe this event. B.C., to designate the years before the Messiah's arrival and A.D. to describe the years after.

In our time, well meaning people have already changed these designations to make them politically correct. But still B.C. is Before Christ and A.D. is Anno Domini (in the year of Our Lord).]
