Teaching the Teachers - To the Young Teacher

"Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you."

1 Timothy 4:12-14

[This is the 4th lesson of this series]

Last Days

In the Book of Acts, when the Holy Spirit came upon the first church, Peter addressed the crowd and told them (quoting the Old Testament Prophet Joel):

“‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams." Acts 2:17

The Youth

Clearly, the youth has a role to play in the last days. There is going to be an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the endtimes and the Lord is going to allow the youth to see visions. These they will use in teaching, encouraging and demonstrating the power of God.

And when will we know if the endtimes are here? Let us read how Apostle Paul described it to the young Timothy:

2 Timothy 3:1b-5a

"...in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power."

This was written 2,000 years ago. But there is almost no doubt that the Apostle Paul was referring to this day and age.

Young Teachers

Back in those days, teachers were exclusively old males but even at that day and time, Paul already appointed a young person as a teacher and leader.

So Paul was instructing Timothy, the young leader of the first church in the City of Ephesus, let no one look down upon him because of his young age. And to let him be set apart from the youth of his day.

This will be harder for today's youth but not impossible. For nothing is impossible with God.

As we sang in the video above:

In the quiet
In the stillness I know that You are God
In the secret of Your presence, I know
There I am restored

When You call I won't refuse
Each new day again I'll choose

There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise

In the chaos
In confusion, I know
You're sovereign still
In the moment
Of my weakness You give
Me grace to do Your will

When you call I won't delay
This my song through all my days

There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified, crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise

All my delight is in You, Lord
All of my hope, all of my strength
All my delight is in You, Lord, forevermore...

Yes, it is not about us. But it is about (none but) Jesus.

Let us sing that again, in the older (original) version
