Our God - Who He Isn't

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him."

John 3:16-18 The Message Paraphrase

This is perhaps the most well known bible verse of all time:

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

This sums up who God is, but also more importantly, who God isn't. The God (with the capital G) is not not just one of the millions of other gods (lower case g) we have.

We all have our gods, even those who don't believe in one.

The One (true) God, the God of the universe, the God of creation was introduced in the Jewish Scriptures.

Religion

Men started three religions based off of the God of the Old Testament bible.

But God did not tell us to create religions. He merely wanted to reveal Himself because we have been lost and He wants to redeem us, and find our way home.

God is Not Like That

God is not out for vengeance or out for blood. He is not looking for righteous people either, for there is none, even though many may think they are.

God is not looking for us to do something for Him. Instead He did something for us, He gave us eternal life. We will forever be lost if we refuse His gift, His offer of salvation.

Gospel

Our God is Love, not hate.

Our God is a Provider, not an asker.

Our God is Wisdom, and not head-knowledge.

Our God is Spirit, and not stone or statues, trinkets or amulets.

Our God is the Word, the Word who created the universe, the Word who became flesh and lived among us.

Our God is looking for a relationship, not religion or rules or rituals.

Our God looks at what's inside the heart, not on what's in the outside or what we allow others to see.

Our God is Truth, He is not man-made. He came down so we can see Him, touch Him, hear Him.

Our God has been revealed through Christ, and we have no excuse for being ignorant to this, especially now in this day and time. And this is why Christ is returning very soon, to take home His bride - the church, those He called and responded to His call.

Everything has been done to get to know Him and God through Him. He has done His part, it is our turn to respond.

The ball is in our hands, God is waiting on what we will do with it.

Shoot, drop (fumble), fake it or pass, or don't do anything, it's our choice.
