Post Pandemic Preaching - Wars

"And when you hear of wars and chaos, do not be terrorized. For these things need to happen first, but the end will not come at once.”
-Jesus of Nazareth, 1st century
Luke 21:9 in the Tree of Life Version

-Let us read that Scriptural text again, but this time slowly...

"And when you hear of wars and chaos, do not be terrorized. For these things need to happen first, but the end will not come at once.”

[This is the 3rd lesson of this series]

In the New International Version, it says: These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.

Wars

Wars have been happening from time to time throughout recorded history. Worldwide wars were fewer and far in between but they do happen. And when they do, deaths are several millions.

The last global war started in 1939 after Hitler invaded Poland.

In this time of a worldwide pandemic, we may be at the cusp of the beginning of another global war. This time with Putin invading Ukraine -- the 2nd time in the last four years.

[The last catastrophic pandemic happened just as the 1st global war ended]

2022

Now this may very well be The War. Jesus told His followers, nation will rise against nation, ethnicity against ethnicity. He said these, so they will not worry.

Birth Pangs

He told them, this will need to happen but this is more like the start of birth pangs. A pregnant woman will typically begin to have labor pains a handful of weeks before she is due to give birth. It does not necessarily mean that she will deliver the baby immediately when it starts. It could take a month, even longer before the baby is actually born. But this, marks the beginning.

The same thing with wars and rumors of wars. These are one of the warning signs of the end.

King Solomon wrote:

"For everything there is a season and a time for every activity under heaven:
...a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace."

Ecclesiastes 3:1... 8

The end times is coming. And this moment with Putin may be the beginning of the start of the end. We feel it though, everyone has a sense of this world is ending for some time now.

And indeed, the end is coming -- the only thing that scientists and theologians agree on.

But not yet. We don't have to be worried. Instead, we need to be watchful, vigilant, ready. We need to pray and share the good news of the gospel.

And then the end will come.
