God's Glory - We Are Unworthy

"But this beautiful treasure is contained in us—cracked pots made of earth and clay—so that the transcendent character of this power will be clearly seen as coming from God and not from us."

2 Corinthians 4:7 in the Voice Bible Version

[This is the 5th lesson of this series]

The God of the universe chooses ordinary people to do the extraordinary.

Preachers of God's message can boast all they want, but should only really, on the Lord. Once they boast otherwise, or on their own accomplishments, their own talents then they have missed the most basic of Christian doctrines.

Christians are saved
by Grace alone, through Faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone.

God saves by grace, so not one among them can boast. Yet many did not seem to get the memo or have selective memory loss.

We Are A Mess

To be a Christian, one has to mess up (not hard) and fess up (not easy).

Then one has to accept God's gift of grace (not hard) and live a life guided by God's Spirit (not easy unless one is not willing).

If you are a saint, you cannot qualify for the forgiveness of God. Followers of Christ become saints only after and because they asked for and received God's forgiveness and when they live by faith. The good works that they do are the evidence not the prerequisites of their sainthood. Good works will not save them.

Apart from God they can do nothing.

Peter

When Peter first realized who Jesus was, and knowing who he was, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said “go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.”

Jesus then told Him, "don't be afraid, from now on, you will be fishers of men".

Peter was a fisherman and after Jesus called Him, He told him that from then on he will catch people instead of fish. It took him some time, several years and Acts 2-4. But he did.

Unworthy

Yes, Peter had the right idea and the right mindset, he was unworthy. And all followers of Christ are not worthy of God's grace. But God's love covers a multitude of sins. The sins of the saints qualified them to be forgiven.

Once they have repented and turn back to God, they are washed clean. And when they keep themselves clean, they become vessels of honor, useful in God's Kingdom, chosen and prepared to do great and mighty things in God's appointed time and purpose.
