Teaching - What is Needed 3

A Call to Persevere

"19Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Placed by the blood of Jesus, 20by the new and living way opened for us through the curtain of His body, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

23Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. 25Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Hebrews 10:19-25 in the Berean Study Bible Version

[This is the 31st lesson of this series]

This lesson follows those of the previous messages (What is Needed and What is Needed 2) where we have discussed verses 19 to 22 of the excerpt above (from the Book of Hebrews).

Now Verse 23 tells us we have a hope that is worth having for He who promised us is faithful.

Hope

Christ is Our Living Hope. He is the One who promised He will return for us as He prepares a place, just like a groom would in the old Jewish culture. When He comes back, a wedding celebration will take place, with the wedding feast and all. Everything promised is being prepared for, will happen when Christ returns for the whole Body of believers, the Bride of Christ.

As we wait, trials will come and they will go. The promise of Christ is that we will not have troubles, but instead we will undergo them. The promise is that He will not leave us or forsake us, and He will be with us in our trials until the end.

Faithful

Christ is faithful. He fulfilled His purpose. He said before He left that He will send the Holy Spirit to those who placed their trust in Him and His finished work.

The Holy Spirit is the evidence, the One who guarantees that Christ who did what He said He will do while in the flesh, will deliver on His promises yet to take place. Christ is still doing His work through His Spirit working in us, through us and for us, making the faithful, full of faith.
