Pandemic Preaching - Harvest Time

'The woman said, “I don’t know about that. I do know that the Messiah is coming. When he arrives, we’ll get the whole story.”

“I am he,” said Jesus. “You don’t have to wait any longer or look any further.”

Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked. They couldn’t believe he was talking with that kind of a woman. No one said what they were all thinking, but their faces showed it.

The woman took the hint and left. In her confusion she left her water pot. Back in the village she told the people, “Come see a man who knew all about the things I did, who knows me inside and out. Do you think this could be the Messiah?” And they went out to see for themselves."

-The Apostle John
John 4:25-30

This pandemic has now shown the world that it is the real thing.

Regardless of the number of people getting vaccinated and many still under pandemic restrictions and social distancing, masks and mandatory body temperature checks, worldwide the number of people getting infected and dying from this pandemic virus is still climbing. And there seems to be no clear end in sight yet.

The Gospel

In the meantime, despite church restrictions, the gospel (the good news of salvation and the kingdom of God) has not been hindered. On the contrary with most churches doing zoom meetings, having live services on TV, going online and into social media, the gospel has spread farther and have reached people and places which would have never been reached if the pandemic and the restrictions have not taken place and imposed.

It's Harvest Time

From the excerpt above from the Book of John, after Jesus went to Samaria (a place where no Jew would want to go to), He spoke with an unamed Samaritan woman and told her things no one else could possibly know about her. He also spoke to her about God, true worship and the Savior of the world

Opportunity

After hearing all this, we read from the passage above that the woman went to the village people and told them about this man she had spoken with.

Many listened and asked Jesus to stay a couple of days so they can hear more of what He had to say.

After this period of time, many of them, like the first Samaritan woman, believed in Christ Jesus and His message.

The same thing is happening right now. People around the world are sitting down and listening to and watching people speak about Jesus Christ and His message.

Those of us sharing the gospel has no illusions that those hearing about it (you included) will believe. In fact even with Jesus, not everyone who heard Him like in that obscure Samaritan village believed His message.

All we are doing is following the example of this Samaritan woman. We are all imperfect people sharing what the Lord has made known to us. So that everyone will have the opportunity to decide for themselves what they will do about Jesus of Nazareth.

We can read the whole story of that woman here: John 4:1-42
