Pandemic Preaching
2020
We have started to talk about this Pandemic back in March and April of 2020 (in the 40 Day Series on Lent -- starting on Day 18). Now, several months into this worldwide disaster, there is still no end in sight. Actually in most places, it is getting worse.
We have long since stopped watching the daily pandemic updates on TV and quit reading the pandemic news online. Not because we do not believe there is a pandemic but because I do know that there is one and that people will be people so when you listen to them speak or read their online commentaries you can't stop but wonder that this is probably why we have a pandemic in the first place. Too much insanity in the world today, like in other periods in human history. And history just repeats itself as people never learn.
One Night
While laying down in bed one night as we are complying with the safer at home orders, the first line of an old song first sang by James Taylor and covered by other artists, came to my mind. The old familiar tune followed and then I found myself singing the lyrics...
Most of you old timers know this song. And it just brought back that 70s nostalgia but also how it is so relevant in this day and time.
Some of you know how it goes...
But yes, it's good to know that in our darkest of times, we have someone to call -- Our Maker.
So this series is birthed.

While laying down in bed one night as we are complying with the safer at home orders, the first line of an old song first sang by James Taylor and covered by other artists, came to my mind. The old familiar tune followed and then I found myself singing the lyrics...
When you're down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night
Some of you know how it goes...
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold
They'll hurt you, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
I mean, a pandemic will last a long time. Many are politicizing this pandemic (people being people, flawed and all). But let's not kid ourselves, this (pandemic) will go on, winter, spring, summer and fall. And could go on for another round. Because that's just how a pandemic is. And there will be people infected. Some of them will die. It is a nasty business.
But yes, it's good to know that in our darkest of times, we have someone to call -- Our Maker.
So this series is birthed.

But it does not mean that the pandemic has ended. No, in fact, different kinds of pandemics and endemics still are all around us. And the way we fight these is how Jesus already modeled for us -- let us do so through the Prayer Series.
