Do You Love Me?

"Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me." John 14:24a

Here Jesus of Nazareth was speaking to his followers during the last supper.

Many times Jesus spoke in parables but at this time, particularly when He was alone witb His disciples and specially when He knew his time was coming, He was speaking very plainly. Before this statement, He told them that those who love Him, will obey Him. And followed this up with saying the opposite, that those who do not love Him, does not obey Him.

And how could they? The path to obedience is at least a three step process. First, you must know Him, before you get to love Him and then you might obey Him.

When Jesus resurrected back from the grave, He asked Peter the same question three times: "Simon son of John, do you love me?"

(Peter was the name given him by Jesus, Simon was the name given him by his parents.)

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him three times, "Do you love me?" (Some people argue  that this is because he also denied Jesus three times while Jesus was in custody of the authorities of their day).

Peter finally replied, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."

To which Jesus told him, "Feed my sheep".

We all are God's lost sheep. Now you have been found, and this -- that you are reading, is your food. So like Peter and the other followers of Jesus after Him, I too am feeding you.

This is the very reason for this place, the cyber church of the lost sheep.

Now if you keep still, and wait, and listen. You too can hear God's voice, and even Jesus Himself, asking... "Do you love me?"

John 14:23-27

"Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid."
