Psalm 121

I Lift Up My Eyes to the Hills

"I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?

My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not allow your foot to slip;
your Protector will not slumber.

Behold, the Protector of Israel
will not slumber or sleep.

The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is the shade on your right hand.

The sun will not strike you by day
nor the moon by night.

The LORD will guard you from all evil;
He will preserve your soul.

The LORD will watch over your coming and going,
both now and forevermore." Psalm 121

Song of Ascents

This is the second of a series of Psalms known collectively as the Song of Ascents. These were songs that were sung by travelers and pilgrims.

The Song of Ascents is the title given to fifteen Psalms (120–134). These are also called the Gradual Psalms, the Songs of Steps or the Pilgrim Songs, for those who travel to Jerusalem had to travel up and down hills and valleys.

Psalm 121 is particularly relevant for its trust in God through the journey.

All of us are travellers and pilgrims in this world. Let us learn were we came from and know where we are headed.

Shalom.
