Psalm 19

For the choir director; a psalm by David. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky displays what his hands have made. One day tells a story to the next. One night shares knowledge with the next without talking, without words, without their voices being heard. Yet, their sound has gone out into the entire world, their message to the ends of the earth. He has set up a tent in the heavens for the sun, which comes out of its chamber like a bridegroom. Like a champion, it is eager to run its course. It rises from one end of the heavens. It circles around to the other. Nothing is hidden from its heat. The teachings of the Lord are perfect. They renew the soul. The testimony of the Lord is dependable. It makes gullible people wise. The instructions of the Lord are correct. They make the heart rejoice. The command of the Lord is radiant. It makes the eyes shine. The fear of the Lord is pure. It endures forever. The decisions of the Lord are true. They are completely

The Lord the Shepherd of His People A Psalm of David 1 The Lord  is  my shepherd; I shall not want. 2  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3  He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You  are  with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. Psalm 23 in the New King James Version The Book of Psalms is a collection of songs -- songs which the Jewish people of old, sang to the Lord. One of the more famous psalms is this one written by King David, the 23rd Psalm. David before he became king of Israel was a shepherd boy. His father gave him the responsibility of tak

Psalm 130

" Help, God — I’ve hit rock bottom!     Master, hear my cry for help! Listen hard! Open your ears!     Listen to my cries for mercy. If you, God, kept records on wrongdoings,     who would stand a chance? As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit,     and that’s why you’re worshiped. I pray to God—my life a prayer—     and wait for what he’ll say and do. My life’s on the line before God, my Lord,     waiting and watching till morning,     waiting and watching till morning. O Israel, wait and watch for God—     with God’s arrival comes love,     with God’s arrival comes generous redemption. No doubt about it—he’ll redeem Israel,     buy back Israel from captivity to sin." Psalm 130 MSG The Book of Psalms is a collection of songs -- songs that the Jewish people of old, sang to the Lord. Most modern worship songs and traditional hymns are based off of the lyrics found in this book, and other books of the bible. You see whenever someone comes to the Lord in

Psalm 143

I Stretch Out My Hands to You "O LORD, hear my prayer. In Your faithfulness, give ear to my plea; in Your righteousness, answer me. Do not bring Your servant into judgment, for no one alive is righteous before You. For the enemy has pursued my soul, crushing my life to the ground, making me dwell in darkness like those long since dead. My spirit grows faint within me; my heart is dismayed inside me. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I consider the work of Your hands. I stretch out my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You like a parched land. Selah Answer me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide Your face from me, or I will be like those who descend to the Pit. Let me hear Your loving devotion in the morning, for I have put my trust in You. Teach me the way I should walk, for to You I lift up my soul. Deliver me from my enemies, O LORD; I flee to You for refuge. Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God. May You

A Prayer for Peace "Our Lord, you have blessed     your land     and made all go well     for Jacob’s descendants. You have forgiven the sin     and taken away the guilt     of your people. Your fierce anger is no longer     aimed at us. Our Lord and our God,     you save us!     Please bring us back home     and don’t be angry. Will you always be angry     with us and our families? Won’t you give us fresh life     and let your people be glad     because of you? Show us your love     and save us! I will listen to you, Lord God,     because you promise peace to those     who are faithful     and no longer foolish. You are ready to rescue     everyone who worships you,     so that you will live with us     in all of your glory. Love and loyalty     will come together;     goodness and peace     will unite. Loyalty will sprout     from the ground;     justice will look down     from the sky above. Our Lord, you will bless us;     our

I Lift Up My Eyes to the Hills "I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Behold, the Protector of Israel will not slumber or sleep. The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is the shade on your right hand. The sun will not strike you by day nor the moon by night. The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore."  Psalm 121 Song of Ascents This is the second of a series of Psalms known collectively as the Song of Ascents. These were songs that were sung by travelers and pilgrims. The Song of Ascents is the title given to fifteen Psalms (120–134). These are also called the Gradual Psalms, the Songs of Steps or the Pilgrim Songs, for those who travel to Jerusalem had to travel up and down hills and valleys. Psa

A Prayer for the Lord’s Help "How much longer, Lord,     will you forget about me?     Will it be forever?     How long will you hide? How long must I be confused     and miserable all day?     How long will my enemies     keep beating me down? Please listen, Lord God,     and answer my prayers. Make my eyes sparkle again,     or else I will fall     into the sleep of death. My enemies will say,     “Now we’ve won!”     They will be greatly pleased     when I am defeated. I trust your love, and I feel like celebrating     because you rescued me. You have been good to me, Lord,     and I will sing about you." Psalm 13 (CEV) A psalm by David for the music leader Even in the midst of the most miserable of days, David, the man after God's own heart, can put together a song and sing it -- a song of lament but always praising God, always with unfailing hope, always lifting up the name of the Lord, not giving up and keeping his joy through it all

A Prayer for Victory " May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;     may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary     and grant you support from Zion. May he remember all your sacrifices     and accept your burnt offerings. May he give you the desire of your heart    and make all your plans succeed. May we shout for joy over your victory     and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests. Now this I know:     The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary     with the victorious power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses,     but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall,     but we rise up and stand firm. Lord, give victory to the king!     Answer us when we call!" Psalm 20 (NIV) For the director of music. A psalm of David Time and time again, in the middle

Give Thanks

Psalm 100 A psalm. For giving thanks. "Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." Song of Thanksgiving The Old Testament Book of Psalms is a collection of songs and prayers that are meant to be sung. Many of them are songs of praise, worship and thanksgiving. Thanksgiving This Thanksgiving Week, as we give thanks to the things we treasure the most, let us take pause and ponder upon those we  may not have given much thought. Let us filter our celebration with this song, the 100th Psalm. Let us take a look at what it might be trying to teach us today. Song of Praise Shou
