Lent - Day 17

The Ministry of the Twelve

"Then Jesus called the Twelve to Him and began to send them out two by two, giving them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing but a staff for the journey—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— and to wear sandals, but not a second tunic.

And He told them, “When you enter a house, stay there until you leave that area. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that place, as a testimony against them.”

So they set out and preached that the people should repent. They also drove out many demons and healed many of the sick, anointing them with oil." Mark 6:7-13

As we continue with our Lenten study, reading through the Book of Mark, we read that Jesus again promoted His 12 apostles.

Clones

Where as before, they were walking along side Jesus, doing the same things He was doing, now, these 12 were sent out on their own. But not alone, but two by two -- teaching, healing and driving out demonic spirits.

Twelve

As we have read in a previous message, these 12 were: Peter and his brother Andrew, brothers James and John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew (Levi), Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot.

Ambassadors of God

These 12 started the Christian church, seeking and saving the lost -- the lost sheep who were trying to look for their way back home.

This church still exists today. And as you read this, me together with the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) are teaching God's Word to you wherever you are in the world.

Let those with ears to hear, let them hear.

We will continue on this 40 day Lenten journey, and I pray that you will continue with us through the Book of Mark, praying, fasting and abstaining from temporal activities that by now you have taken out of your daily routine. Shalom.
