40 Days After the Resurrection - Part 10

The Resurrection of Christ

"Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve. After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep."
1 Corinthians 15:1-6

Within the 40 days of Lent and the next 40 days following the resurrection was when the Christian faith belief system was made certain.

And this is why it is important that old and new believers take a look at the events that took place within these days.

In the passage above the Apostle Paul in his writing to the early believers in Corinth wrote that this is the "gospel", the creed, the belief system, their faith and the good news that he is preaching to them and is what they believe in.

Creed

1. Christ died for our sins.
2. He was buried.
3. He was raised on the third day.
4. He appeared to Cephas (Aramaic for Peter).
5. He appeared to the Twelve (the original 12 less Judas plus the new addition, Matthias).
6. He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once.

Paul has written these down for them because it was important that they know these.

And then he added that these eye witnesses to the resurrected Christ -- the One who was prophesied to be the Messiah, the One who conquered death, the One who died for their sins; these people who witnessed all these were numerous, in the hundreds and that although some of them have already fallen asleep (passed away), most are still very much alive and are living. These people can attest to what he was teaching them and they can easily verify and investigate that all that he was telling them were true.

Changed

These people were once so fearful for their lives, they were sheltering in place, hiding from the public, the religious leaders of the day and their guards and their Roman masters and their soldiers.

But once Jesus appeared to them, back from the dead, explained and revealed to them the mysteries of Scripture and after He had breathed in them the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Living God, they became unafraid and fearless and they went out and told the world about this good news of salvation.
