40 Days After the Resurrection - Part 3

Jesus Opens the Scriptures

"Then Jesus said to them, “O foolish ones, how slow are your hearts to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and then to enter His glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was written in all the Scriptures about Himself.

As they approached the village where they were headed, He seemed to be going farther. But they pleaded with Him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.”

So He went in to stay with them. While He was reclining at the table with them, He took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus—and He disappeared from their sight.

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us as He spoke with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem.

There they found the Eleven and those with them, gathered together and saying, “The Lord has indeed risen and has appeared to Simon!”

Then the two told what had happened on the road, and how they had recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread."
Luke 24:25-35

Continuing where we left off yesterday, we read from the passage above what happened after these two people on their way to a village called Emmaus have spoken to this person who appeared from nowhere and apparently is the only person in town who haven't heard about the viral talk of their day.

Now without them knowing who was walking and talking to them along the way, this person explained to them the background on what has happened and why those things had to happen.

Shall we say that they were all ears and that in their hearts or within them, they were feeling it. Some thing within them was stirring. It was burning inside them.

This is sonething only those who actually experienced it can say. Ot would be something hard to explain or put into words.

Now according to the narrative, only after they have broken bread together (meaning after they prayed and ate dinner with this man) did these two people recognize that it was indeed Jesus back from the dead who has been explaining all these things to them all this time.

As we have already talked about, none of the early believers believed that Jesus rose from the dead but this event and many others that followed this and which we will also look at, will all help them to finally believe.

Then as we have said, we will also finally understand why they spent the remainder of their lives spreading the good news about Jesus of Nazareth.

And why they wrote down their eye witness accounts for us future generations.

All these could actually happen to all of us as well. And all of us will also be able to share the same things to others who would be willing to listen.
