40 Days After the Resurrection - Part 8

Jesus Reinstates Peter

"When they had finished eating, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.”

Jesus replied, “Feed My lambs.”

Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?”

“Yes, Lord,” he answered, “You know I love You.”

Jesus told him, “Shepherd My sheep.”

Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?”

Peter was deeply hurt that Jesus had asked him a third time, “Do you love Me?”

“Lord, You know all things,” he replied. “You know I love You.”

Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.

Truly, truly, I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God.

And after He had said this, He told him, “Follow Me.” John 21:15-19

Continuing with our study from when Jesus appeared to His disciples after they went back to fishing (for fish).

We started where we left off the last time, from the written eye witness account of the Apostle John (he was one of those who went back to being fishermen).

Breakfast

The resurrected Christ after they shared a meal with them, we then read from the passage above that He asked Peter (who He referred to as Simon -- his original name back when he first called him and he was still a fisherman), three times: "Do you love Me?"

Peter got annoyed after the third question, and told Jesus you know all things, you know I love you.

And Jesus knew, He knew the more you are forgiven, the more you love Him.

Jesus gave Peter three things, actually four things to do.

1. "Feed My lambs".

2. "Shepherd My sheep."

3. "Feed My sheep."

And then lastly...

"Follow Me."

We are those lambs. We are these sheep. We are His lost sheep.

And yes after someone have fed us, we are then asked to follow Christ.

Eat up lambs...
