Lent - 34th Day

The Greatest Commandment

"Now one of the scribes had come up and heard their debate. Noticing how well Jesus had answered them, he asked Him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”

Jesus replied, “This is the most important: ‘Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

“Right, Teacher,” the scribe replied. “You have stated correctly that God is One and there is no other but Him, and to love Him with all your heart and with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself, which is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

When Jesus saw that the man had answered wisely, He said, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”

And no one dared to question Him any further."
Mark 12:28-34

This is the last week of our 40 Day Lenten study. Today, we read the things that happened during that first Holy Monday, as we continue reading through the Book of Mark.

In the passage above, the usual paparazzis are again following Jesus and His disciples wherever they went and they are making their usual mistake, trying to trap Jesus by asking Him questions.

These people never learn. Jesus have always made them look bad at every turn.

All of us are like that, we constantly look at the flaws of others, yet neglecting to notice ours.

In our eyes we can do no wrong and we are deceived. We live in a fantasy world like in the movies where the protagonist is always portrayed as good and can do no wrong.

Jesus didn't really like those types. In His days, those were the religious leaders, the scribes and that one rich ruler who also asked Him a question.

We can read about all of them in the gospels.

Please continue this Lenten series with us, as we continue to get to know Christ, spend quiet time with Him, praying, fasting. And let us finish this 40 day journey together. Shalom.
