Lent - Day 33rd

Triumphal Entry

"As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent out two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, ‘Why are you doing this?’ tell him, ‘The Lord needs it and will return it shortly.’”

So they went and found the colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. They untied it, and some who were standing there asked, “Why are you untying the colt?”

The disciples answered as Jesus had instructed them, and the people gave them permission. Then they led the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, and He sat on it.

Many in the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut from the fields. The ones who went ahead and those who followed were shouting:

“Hosanna!”

“Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!”

“Hosanna in the highest!”

Then Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, He went out to Bethany with the Twelve."
Mark 11:1-11

We are finally on the last week of our 40 Day Lenten study, as we read through the Book of Mark.

Under normal conditions, today churches would have been full with believers commemorating the triumphant entry of Jesus in the City of Nazareth.

The narrative have been recorded by all four gospel writers (Mark, above and in (Matthew 21:1-11, Luke 19:28-40 and John 12:12-19).

It was also prophesized by Zechariah (Zechariah 9:9-13) long before it happened. But like most prophesies about Jesus, this was not noticed until after some time later, as the Spirit of God reminded the apostles.

This week is the holiest of weeks for Christians, hence it is known as Holy Week and it is the final week of Lent, ending on Resurrection Sunday.

The good news of salvation will finally unfold during this holiest of weeks, hence Christians revere this week among any other. We will go through the major events that happened during this week in an attempt to get to know the salvation story.

Please continue this Lenten series with us, as we continue to get to know Christ, spend quiet time with Him, praying, fasting. And let us finish this 40 day journey together. Shalom.
