Lent - Day 40

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

"Early on the first day of the week, after Jesus had risen, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had driven out seven demons. She went and told those who had been with Him, who were mourning and weeping. And when they heard that Jesus was alive and she had seen Him, they did not believe it.

Jesus Appears to Two Disciples

After this, Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them as they walked along in the country.

And they went back and reported it to the rest, but they did not believe them either." Mark 16:9-12

Today is the last day of our 40 Day Lenten study, and we read in part what was recorded to have happened during that first Holy Week, in the Book of Mark.

We did skip some verses and that is a good oppprtunity to read those on our own quiet time with the Lord.

As we read though the passage, even the people who were with Jesus did not believe that He rose from the grave during that first Resurrection Sunday.

So it shouldn't really surprise us that there are many today who also do not believe it either. In fact some do not even believe Jesus ever existed. What is surprising though is that these same people swore that many other people existed who lived and died around that time or even earlier -- like they are 100% sure they were real people and that they were 100% sure that Jesus wasn't.

Well I guess, it is just harder to believe when someone claim they came back from the dead.

Now, just as we read those early believers did not initially believe it either. But they eventually did  after several more times that Jesus appeared to them and to hundreds of other people for a period of 40 days.

We can read about all these as we continue reading the Book of Mark and the gospels and then the Book of Acts.
