Advent - Let There Be Light

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. He created all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.
Whether they are kings or lords,
rulers or powers—everything has been created through him and for him."
Colossians 1:15-16

In the previous message, we touched on how that bright light in the heavens was pointing to the True Light who came down to live among us. On that day this was apparent only to those who were seeking this Light.

Today we will continue to dwell on this point that the light from the heavens pointed to the newborn King, the Savior of the world, who is that light that opens up our eyes.

In the Beginning

The opening line of the first book of the Old Testament bible reads:

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
[Genesis 1:1]

The opening line of the Gospel According to John says:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

That Word, God's Word is the newborn King. He is God -- the invisible God who has become visible.

To See is To Believe

Because people would not believe Him, God made Himself known to (and be seen by) humankind.

Because people are thinking, to see is to believe, God made a way for humanity to see Him in the flesh, in the person of Jesus, the Christ.

When we look at Jesus, we can see the God who cannot be seen.

When we look at this Him, we could see God’s original purpose in everything He created.

Through the Word (God's Word) everything, above and below, visible and invisible —everything, came into being in Him and finds its purpose in Him and through Him.

Him is the Christ.

The Light So We Can See

And God said “Let there be light,” and there was light. [Genesis 1:3]

Through God's Spoken Word, everything is created.

And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. [John 1:3]

The newborn King, the Messiah, the Christ, the Savior of the world is the Word. God's Word. God Himself.

He is the Light that opens our eyes, our hearts and our minds.

On Christmas day God Hinself is speaking into our very being "let there be light".
