Abram Obeys the Calling

Then Adonai said to Abram,

“Get going out from your land, and from your relatives, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you.

My heart’s desire is to make you into a great nation, to bless you, to make your name great so that you may be a blessing.

My desire is to bless those who bless you, but whoever curses you I will curse and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.

So Abram went, just as Adonai had spoken to him. Also Lot went with him. (Now Abram was 75 years old when he departed from Haran.)

[This is the 12th message of this series]

Prologue

In the Jewish holy book, before Abraham was known as Abraham, he went by the name Abram.

After he listened and obeyed the call of God, God changed his name to Abraham and eventually he became the father of three faiths -- Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Muslims through their Islamic holy book, contends that God made a covenant with their people through Abraham (Ibrahim) and his first son Ismael (Ismail).

The Jewish holy book says that God made a covenant with the Jewish people through Abraham and his son Isaac who fathered Jacob who fathered the 12 tribes of Israel.

Christianity

Christians view the Jewish Scriptures as the prologue to the story of Jesus Christ, the prophesied Messiah, the Savior of the world.

The Jewish people look at their holy book as solely for Jews, the chosen people of God and their own land, Israel.

Where The Faiths Branch Out

Jews look at God as the God of the Jewish people. They call their God Yahweh and  have various names for Him.

Muslims look at their God, the same way. They call their God, Allah.

Christians assert that God is the God of all people. They look to Jesus of Nazareth as the culmination of the Jewish Scriptures.

God promised Abram that he will be the father of many nations. Christians saw that all the Messianic prophesies in the Jewish bible were fulfilled in the person of Jesus of Nazareth and affirm that salvation is not only for the Jews and Israel but for all nations. Hence for the last 2,000 years they have obeyed the mandate to spread the good news of salvation to everyone, to the ends of the earth.

This message is helping do just that.
