The Gospel - The Book Written By John

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

John 1:1-5 in the Berean Study Bible

[This is the 7th message of this series]

This will be the 4th and last book of the gospel. It was attributed to the disciple whom Jesus loved, named John. It is distinct from the other three in its presentation and how it presented Jesus of Nazareth.

The excerpt above is how this book started... "in the beginning...".

Perhaps because of this, many people recommend new believers to read this book first. There is some advantage to heeding this advice.

Each One of Us Is Unique

Although each person is unique, this is why there are other books of the gospel message. And personally I would rather recommend that those who are busy start off by reading the shortest book, the Book of Mark, direct and to the point.

Those among us, who would like an orderly account or are logical, methodical and thorough, I would recommend that they start with the Book of Luke. It will be the perfect companion to the Book of Acts, also written by Doctor Luke.

Those who have some knowledge of the Jewish writings might want to start with the Book of Matthew

But essentially it is recommended that every believer read all the four books and the Book of Acts. The next step to that would be to read the letters of Paul, Peter, James, John and the other disciples of Jesus, and then to read the last book of the Christian Scriptures, the Book of Revelation. One who has been spiritually reborn would have this hunger for the Word, and this thirst for Living Water will lead them to go and learn as much as they can.

Here is a summation of the first 12 chapters of the Book of John:
