Quiet Time #5 - We Can Do It
"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." John 14:12 (NIV)
Before Jesus left His disciples, He told them many things concerning the future. One of the things He told them was He promised to be with them until the end of time, He will give them the Holy Spirit and this one -- that they can do greater things than what He has done.
Of course, this does not literally mean that we can be better than Him or that we can even do what He has done, such as die for the sins of the world, forgive sins or even raise more dead people than He did (He was recorded to have raised three people who have already died, Lazarus being the most famous and being dead the longest). We just can't do all of that. And rightly so, because Scriptures tell us that no disciple is above his teacher and no servant is greater than his master.
Holy Spirit
Now we do have the promised Holy Spirit living in us and we can really actually do even greater things than what Jesus did. But only in accordance to His will and in line with Scriptures and common sense, and thus prove the bible true.
One thing we can do more than Jesus is like what the Apostle Paul did, we could personally reach more people than Jesus did. We can write books and we can use current advancements in technology (TV, radio, social media and the imternet). We can travel more miles. We can cover more territory, more nations, more cultures, and reach more diverse people. We can help spread the Good News and make disciples in all the world.
And this, He commissioned us to do. This He mandated us to do. And this He empowered us to do. He knows we can do it. And what more is that He said signs and wonders will accompany us. So what are we waiting for? The ball is in our hands now, we just need to listen to and believe in our coach and run with it. And yes, indeed we can do even greater things!
