Covenants

"But they, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant; there they were unfaithful to Me." Hosea 6:7

New Year means new beginnings, what better way to start the coming new year but with a new series about our own beginnings.

Covenants

The bible tells us that God has made covenants (pledges or agreements) with a select few, throughout a span of a few thousand years.

And although it is not clearly written, the first covenant between God and Man is deemed from that passage above taken from the Book of the Prophet Hosea.

Works

What is this covevant? Some call this the Covenant of Works. Meaning Adam (the first human) had to do something (do some work) to fulfill his part of the agreement.

Let us read from the Book of Genesis, what he was supposed to do.

"Then the LORD God took the man (Adam) and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.

"And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.” Genesis 2:15-17

Death

Adam was told 'not to eat' from that one tree. Yes. Otherwise he will surely die.

And as the Book of Genesis (chapter 3) tells us, he did eat from the "forbidden" tree. And thus he broke the agreement.

He died. Not physically, but spiritually. He got cut off spiritually from God and this has been going on through all the generations of humanity ever since.

This is important to note and remember, as everything we talk about in here is about spiritual things, heavenly things. Once you understand this, everything written here will finally make sense, especially to those who are still a little bit puzzled.

Covenant

Here is the full promise of God to humanity, during the time of creation.

"Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itselfd and every creature that crawls upon it.”

So God created man in His own image;

in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.”

Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit contains seed. They will be yours for food. And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good.

And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day."
Genesis 1:26-31
