The New Covenant

Image
"Now, however, Jesus has received a much more excellent ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is better and is founded on better promises. For if that first covenant had been without fault, no place would have been sought for a second. But God found fault with the people and said: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant  with the house of Israel  and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not abide by My covenant, and I disregarded them, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their minds, and inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people. No longer will each one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know Me, from the least o

Covenant - With David

"And now, O LORD God, confirm forever the word You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house. Do as You have promised, so that Your name will be magnified forever when it is said, ‘The LORD of Hosts is God over Israel.’ And the house of Your servant David will be established before You." 2 Samuel 7:25-26 This will be the next covenant* made by God with a man. He made this one with a man after His own heart. This man was David, the least among his brothers. He was the young shepherd boy, the song writer, the musician, the worshipper, before he became the warrior king. God (in 2 Samuel 7:12-16) promised King David that one of his descendants will build His temple. And that his kingdom will last forever. This (pledge/agreement) was fulfilled in David's son, Solomon. And the eternal kingdom was fulfilled down the line, when Jesus of Nazareth was born. Jesus as written in Scriptures, can trace His lineage back to the house of David. And like David, we too, t

Covenant - With Moses

Image
"After they had set out from Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain. Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, “This is what you are to tell the house of Jacob and explain to the sons of Israel: ‘You have seen for yourselves what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you will be My treasured possession out of all the nations—for the whole earth is Mine." Exodus 19:2-5 Continuing with this series on covenants*, we will next talk about what very well is the Old Covenant, or the Old Testament Covenant. Old Covenant So what is this Old Testament Covenant? Well, it is not unlike the 3 covenants that we have discussed previously in this series, but is much more complex. For one, it is about the fulfillment of God's prophecy to Abraham -- deliverance of God's chosen people

Covenant - with Abraham

Abraham to Father Many Nations "When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty. Walk before Me and be blameless. I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.” Then Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, “As for Me, this is My covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you. I will establish My covenant as an everlasting covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. And to you and your descendants I will give the land where you are residing—all the land of Canaan—as an eternal possession; and I will be their God.” Genesis 17:1-8 This is now the 3rd message in this series on covenants*. We star

Covenant - with Noah

"Then God said to Noah and his sons with him, “Behold, I now establish My covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth—every living thing that came out of the ark. And I establish My covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.” Genesis 9:8-11 This is the 2nd message in this series with the 1st covenant being with Adam*, the 1st Man and his descendants. This time around the covenant is with Noah, his 3 sons and their descendants. It is interesting to note that after the fall of Adam and Eve (the 1st marriage), it didn't take long for all of humanity to go down the toilet. When it got really, really bad, God eventually saved Noah and his family -- rebooting the earth, restarting it over and making this covenant (pledge or agreement) with them Sons of Noah What is more

Covenants

"But they, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant; there they were unfaithful to Me." Hosea 6:7 New Year means new beginnings, what better way to start the coming new year but with a new series about our own beginnings. Covenants The bible tells us that God has made covenants (pledges or agreements) with a select few, throughout a span of a few thousand years. And although it is not clearly written, the first covenant between God and Man is deemed from that passage above taken from the Book of the Prophet Hosea. Works What is this covevant? Some call this the Covenant of Works. Meaning Adam (the first human) had to do something (do some work) to fulfill his part of the agreement. Let us read from the Book of Genesis, what he was supposed to do. " Then the LORD God took the man (Adam) and placed him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. "And the LORD God commanded him, “You may eat freely from every tree of the garden, but you must
