Praying To Our Father In Heaven

The Lord’s Prayer

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Matthew 6:5-6

We are back to talking about another small portion of what is now known as the Sermon on the Mount.

This is part five of this series.

Practical and Logical

Like the rest of the previous snippets of this sermon, here Jesus is again teaching something practical, something logical and something people should already know about down in their gut.

Not For Show

The things of God are not things that people do, like in a movie production. It is not theater, or a radio program or a TV show.

So like what He also said about giving, Jesus essentially said about praying. It should be the same thing -- not letting your left hand know what your hand is doing.

How To Pray?

It would be best to look for a secluded place, meaning try to find a place where there will be no one seeing what you are doing.

Find a spot where you will be alone and simply just be there as honestly as you can.

Take the focus out of you or your flowery words and theatrics.

Once your focus is on God, not on yourself or anyone and anything else, your Father in heaven will not disappoint.

Purpose

The purpose to your prayer, aside from being honest with yourself and others is to find that connection with the One who can do the miraculous.

Pray with Simplicity

“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this:

Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what’s best—
    as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You’re in charge!
You can do anything you want!
You’re ablaze in beauty!
    Yes. Yes. Yes."
Matthew 6:7-13 MSG

We couldn't have said it any better than that.
