Feeding the Lambs - God Knows Our Deeds

"I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door, which no one can shut. For you have only a little strength, yet you have kept My word and have not denied My name."

-Jesus
Written by the Apostle John, 1st century

Revelation 3:8

[34th message of the New Believer Series]

In the preceding message of this series, we read what the Lord said to the first church in Laodicea. It was one of the seven churches mentioned in the last book of the New Testament bible (as revealed to and written by the Apostle John).

In this excerpt above, the Apostle John is writing what the Lord is telling the believers in the first church in Philadelphia (like Laodicea -- from the preceding message, this was a church back in the 1st century, in a city now located in modern day Turkey).

The passage above is a commendation to the body of believers (both the new and not so new) of that church. And this is to tell them God knows that even though they weren't strong, they've kept the faith.

Testing

If we continue reading from that passage, it will read:

"Because you have kept My command to persevere, I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth."

The Promise

With their perseverance, the Lord gave these believers a promise to keep them safe from the disaster that is coming upon them and the whole earth.

The verses which follow say:

"
I am coming soon. Hold fast to what you have, so that no one will take your crown."

Disasters

Disastrous events will be a part of the life of any one of us, including believers. Being a believer will not exempt one from not so good things happening to them. The good thing is that back when they didn't believe, they went through all their difficult times on their own. As a believer, they now have the favor of God and that they will not be going through hardships alone because the Spirit of God is with them who will help them along as they go through trying times. When all the endtime signs are here, the Lord will come back for His church who persevered.

He Who Has Ears

Again this passage ends with:

"He (or she) who has an ear, let him (her) hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

God is always speaking to the churches. But some believers do not hear or pretend not to hear His voice nor His proddings.

Any believer, new and old should not fall into this category.
