Feeding the Sheep - Living the New Life 2

"So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires."
-Apostle Paul, 1st century
Colossians 3:5a

[This is the 17th message of this series]

This lesson is intended for mature believers (or adulting believers). For a more orderly study, please go through all the previous messages first, if you haven't yet.

In the previous message we discussed the words of Paul as written in Colossians Chapter 3.

This is the 2nd part of that lesson.

What

In the previous lesson, Apostle Paul told the first church in Colassae what they ought to be doing. What we need to know now is how to do them.

The first item on his "to do" list is to not be controlled by our body.

And that means killing off everything connected with that old person, the old way, the way of death.

Earthly vs Heavenly

The new life means putting to death what is earthly in us and the first and the most obvious of these is sexual immorality or sexual promiscuity -- Christ calls this the lust of the flesh.

How to Put it Off

Sexual desires is from God so it is natural for us to have them. This is the reason why God's Word cautions us not to open this prematurely or at a young age as it might be like having to put toothpaste back into the tube after we have pushed it out.

Ways of the World

The world pushed this agenda. It wants everyone, people of all ages to be exposed to this and thus TV shows, movies, music, advertisements, social media, the internet, everything is sexually explicit and everything about sex is out in the open -- opening up doors which should have been closed until the proper time.

Yes, don't we keep the cap on and twisted shut on the toothpaste  tube and only twist the cap off when it's time to brush our teeth?

Marriage

God created marriage for this purpose, for men and women to be together intimately, and to be made one flesh. They are made to be together and to procreate.

What the world is teaching us is quite the opposite. This is a big reason why people for several years now have been putting off getting married, at the same time they are not having children.

Both of which are unnatural and not very smart. And this after each new generation is priding themselves as being smarter than the previous one. This is true by the way.

But everything is so ironic

The main thing we need to remember is that everything taught and done in the past were done for a reason, if we change them, there will be consequences and we will find out soon enough what these will be.

How

So back to our goal of how to stay away from the lust of the flesh. Then the way is to be a little old fashioned. Be selective of movies and TV shows that we watch, the music we listen to, apps we use and online sites we visit. Look for love and romance at the right time and in the right places.

And to start each day with a quiet moment with God. Fill our mind of heavenly things, heavenly manna is new and available every morning.

Psalm 34:8

"Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!"

In our next lesson we will touch on the lust of the eyes.
