Origins (of Missions)

'But we wanted you to have the true message. That’s why we didn’t give in to them, not even for a second.

Some of them were supposed to be important leaders, but I didn’t care who they were. God doesn’t have any favorites! None of these so-called special leaders added anything to my message. They realized that God had sent me with the good news for Gentiles, and that he had sent Peter with the same message for Jews. God, who had sent Peter on a mission to the Jews, was now using me to preach to the Gentiles.

James, Peter, and John realized that God had given me the message about his undeserved kindness. And these men are supposed to be the backbone of the church. They even gave Barnabas and me a friendly handshake. This was to show that we would work with Gentiles and that they would work with Jews.'

-the Apostle Paul writing to the first Christians in Galatia, 1st century

Galatians 2:5-9

[This is the 14th message of this series]

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we have gone a long way since the first message of this series. And by now, we already have a fairly good grasp of the beginnings (the origins) of certain things

Today we are going to look at the origins of World Missions -- the spread of the gospel of Christ to the whole world.

Paul

From the excerpt above taken from the letter of Paul to the first believers in the City Of Galatia (this city was located in what is now Modern day Turkey). This letter was written in the first century.

As we know, the message of the good news of Christ was first preached to the Jews.

In the Book of Acts, Luke wrote about Paul and their missionary journeys outside of the land of the Jews as they took the gospel out to Gentiles (non-Jews) -- meeting them where they are.

Church Leaders in Jerusalem

James, Peter and John were the original leaders of the church in Jerusalem -- the first church. They along with the first followers of Christ taught those who were in their land at that time (these were mostly Jews).

Missionary

When Paul got involved, he brought the gospel out of the land of its origins. Many others also did the same,  although we can see from the passage above how Paul was explaining in his letter to the church in Galatia how they started their missionary work and how the church leaders in Jerusalem sent them off with a handshake as they started the spread of the gospel (northward and eastward).

To The Ends of the Earth

Today Christians are waiting for the second coming of Christ. But He won't be back, until the whole world have heard about the first coming.

This is the reason for this church (Church of the Lost Sheep) and why these messages are being written down and broadcasted on the internet and being shared on social media.

[Some people and some places can only be reached by the beautiful feet of wifi and technology]

As you read this missionary letter and all the other online messages in here and as you help share them, and prayerfully become a missionary yourself bringing the gospel where you are located, together we are all getting closer (one person and one day at a time) to the Second Coming of Christ.
