Pandemic Preaching - The Good News

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him."

John 3:16-17

Thanksgiving

It's Thanksgiving Week and although many of us may find it hard to be thankful with anything right now, but really there is always something to be thankful for.

If we can't think of one, maybe it is because we have taken it for granted that Christ saved us from the comparatively more miserable and purposeless lives we were living before He found us.

If we have no idea what the Good News of the Kingdom of God is all about, maybe this is the week to find out and join the ranks of the living.

The Good News of Salvation is still the best news and most times the only good news.

Pandemic

The world we live in is already in a state of pandemonium. With the pandemic it just got worse.

And we are not downplaying what you may be going through. Jesus already knew that we will go through troubles. That is why He did what He had to do, and He prayed for all of us before He went to the cross in Calvary.

Giving

God gave us the Way to live a New Life. Thanksgiving cannot be spelled without the word giving. And God already gave Himself to us, we just need to receive what is being given. And for some, we just need someone, anyone to introduce us to the One who will set us free.

Forgiving

Thanksgiving also involves forgiving. Much of the things we have gone through and are going through is because of the consequences of things other people did or because of the decisions we have made. To be thankful, we will need to let these go. God already gave us the Way to be forgiven. We just need to receive our forgiveness.

And we need to forgive -- others and ourselves. God does not look at our past. He is always in the present, here and now. He wants us to live in the moment and He wants to give us a future.

Caregiving

Thanksgiving also involves caregiving. We care for others because God took care of us. God does not let us go through life on our own, empty handed. The same love and care that we receive from Him is the same love and care we will use to care for others. This is the key to living a (new) life of joy. When we care for others using our own love, we will soon burn out.

Thanksgiving

And yes thanksgiving is about giving thanks. And so we thank God for giving us a new life. And this is living, pandemic or no pandemic.

Happy Thanksgiving!
