The Day of the Lord

Image
"Beloved, do not let this one thing escape your notice: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance. But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare." 2 Peter 3:8-10 Peter in writing* to the early believers was saying that people will be mocking them because Jesus was taking His sweet time in fulfilling His promise of coming back. But he took that opportunity to speak about Jesus, who He is and how this will all end. Jesus is a compassionate person and He is taking His time for good reason. But at the proper time, just as Jesus have already told them; Peter in quoting Jesus' own Words said that He would return like a thief breaking in

Last Days

‘In the last days,’ God says,     ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy.     Your young men will see visions,     and your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out my Spirit     even on my servants—men and women alike—     and they will prophesy. And I will cause wonders in the heavens above     and signs on the earth below—     blood and fire and clouds of smoke. The sun will become dark,     and the moon will turn blood red     before that great and glorious day of the Lord arrives. But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord     will be saved.’ Acts 2:17-21 As we have been reading the Book of Acts, we have been seeing how it was like during the time of the first Church. The first time Peter preached, he spoke about the reality of Jesus Christ. Telling those who were there, things they already know about including some that they may have overlooked or have failed to totally understand. He spoke of th

Acts 2 Church The Fellowship of Believers "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. A sense of awe came over everyone, and the apostles performed many wonders and signs. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they shared with anyone who was in need. With one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts and to break bread from house to house, sharing their meals with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."  Acts 2:42-47 As we have read above, the Book of Acts written by an eye-witness, the Evangelist Luke is a record of what the first church was all about. He wrote this record and the Book of Luke for a person named Theophilus and these books have been preserved, translated to different languages and passed d

First Sermon of the Church

Peter Addresses the Crowd "Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, lifted up his voice, and addressed the crowd: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen carefully to my words. These men are not drunk as you suppose. It is only the third hour of the day! ... Men of Israel, listen to this message: Jesus of Nazareth was a man certified by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know. He was delivered up by God’s set plan and foreknowledge, and you, by the hands of the lawless, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead, releasing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its clutches. David says about Him: ‘I saw the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will dwell in hope, because You will not aban
