Wisdom - Joy and Light

Image
"The life of the godly is full of light and joy,      but the light of the wicked will be snuffed out." Proverbs 13:9 NLT [This is the 13th message in this series] In this series we are highlighting two-liner verses from the Book of Proverbs. Godly In the previous lesson from this series, we touched on joy. We shall segue right through and talk about light and joy. So the first line of this couplet talks to us about the light of the godly (in other translations it says light of the righteous). No one is really godly per se. There is one (Creator) God. Those who know God can be deemed godly to God (or righteous in His eyes), only when He sees the reflection of His Son when He looks at them.  God's Son who clothed Himself in humanity and lived as one of us is the Righteous One (the righteous human). The Son is godly as He is God Himself (God the Word who became flesh, the second person of the Holy Trinity). When believers put their trust on the Righteous One, they

Advent - Let There Be Light

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. He created all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. Whether they are kings or lords, rulers or powers—everything has been created through him and for him." Colossians 1:15-16 In the previous message , we touched on how that bright light in the heavens was pointing to the True Light who came down to live among us. On that day this was apparent only to those who were seeking this Light. Today we will continue to dwell on this point that the light from the heavens pointed to the newborn King, the Savior of the world, who is that light that opens up our eyes. Christmas Star, December 21, 2020 In the Beginning The opening line of the first book of the Old Testament bible reads: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." [Genesis 1:1] The opening line of the Gospel According to John says: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,

Advent - God's Love

"The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son." -John the Apostle circa 1st Century John 1:9-14 Last night Jupiter and Saturn appeared as a bright star, visible to the naked eye for a few hours to those who were anticipating and looking for it. This became possible when in their race around the sun the paths of these two giant planets crossed, the closest it had been and last visible on earth in the year 1226. Christmas Star

Light of the World

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12 In the first book of bible, it is written that "God said, "Let there be light," and there was light." Light is a very common and very important topic in the bible, both in the Old and the New Testament. One of the more better known quotes from the bible is Jesus saying "I am the Way, the Truth and the Light." Light, that is what Jesus is. And this is how John, one of the first and closest followers of Jesus puts it for us: "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that wh

Quiet Time #13 - Shine!

"You are the light of the world. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14a,16 NIV In Genesis 1, God spoke: “Light!”         And light appeared.     God saw that light was good         and separated light from darkness. In Mathew 8 and John 8, Jesus said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” In John 1, John wrote that in Christ was life, and the life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Everything about Jesus is light . And that is why those who follow Him are not just in the light, they are also light. This means they are meant to light the way for others who are lost. They are also meant to be the light in areas where there are darkness. They are also light to differentiate them from those who are in the dark or those who are darkness

Quiet Time #8 - Living In The Light

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 NIV The whole context of this verse is in verses 8 to 10: (here it is in the NLT) "If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts." Humility Meaning only when one admits that he/she has sinned and fallen short of God's glorious standard will the Lord look down upon that person and heal and save him/her by His amazing grace -- making him/her a child of light, a child born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God (born again) -- a child of God. Live in the Light Now after being reborn, these children would not be immune
